What is the function of Geotextile? Geotextile is a permeable geosynthetic material produced by weaving technology, which is in the form of cloth, also known as geotextile. Its main characteristics are light weight, good overall continuity, easy construction, high tensile strength, and corrosion resistance. Geotextiles are further divided into woven geotextiles and non-woven geotextiles. The former is woven from single or multiple strands of silk, or woven from flat filaments cut from thin films; The latter is composed of short fibers or spray spun long fibers randomly laid into flocs, which are then mechanically wrapped (needle punched), thermally bonded, or chemically bonded.
What is the role of Geotextile?:
(1) Isolation between different materials
Between the roadbed and foundation; Between railway subgrade and ballast; Between the landfill and the crushed stone base; Between the geomembrane and the sandy drainage layer; Between the foundation and embankment soil; Between foundation soil and foundation piles; Under sidewalks, parking lots, and sports venues; Between poorly graded filter and drainage layers; Between different areas of earth dams; Used between new and old asphalt layers.
(2) Reinforcement and protective materials
Used on soft foundations of embankments, railways, landfills, and sports sites; Used for making geotechnical packages; Reinforcement for embankments, earth dams, and slopes; As a foundation reinforcement in karst areas; Improving the bearing capacity of shallow foundations; Reinforcement on the foundation pile cap; Prevent the geotextile membrane from being punctured by the base soil; Prevent impurities or stone layers in the landfill from puncturing the geomembrane; Due to high frictional resistance, it can lead to better slope stability on composite geomembranes.
(3) Reverse filtration
Under the crushed stone base of the road surface and airport road or under railway ballast; Around the gravel drainage layer; Around underground perforated drainage pipes; Under the landfill site that produces leachate; Protect the geotextile network to prevent soil particles from invading; Protect geosynthetic materials to prevent soil particles from invading.
(4) Drainage
As a vertical and horizontal drainage system for earth dams; Horizontal drainage of pre pressed embankment bottom on soft foundation; As a barrier layer for underground capillary water to rise in frost sensitive areas; Capillary barrier layer for the flow of saline alkali solution in dry land; As the base layer of articulated concrete block slope protection.
